In July, I had the fortunate opportunity to be part of the inaugural Art of Photography exhibition organised by the Selwyn Photography Collective held at Te Ara Atea in Rolleston. It was a thrill to be part of an exhibition that specifically showcases photography. The variety of genres that people use the medium of photography to express themselves was wonderful and really showcased photography as more than the recording of a scene or person.
I had four images accepted into the exhibition. I was honoured (surprised and humbled) to have my image of Lake Coleridge "Rain and Light" to be awarded the Best in Show Prize.
The image was taken as a storm was making its way down Lake Coleridge. It was moody. The light was trying to hang on and stubbornly forcing its way through the clouds creating shafts of light across the surface of the lake and landforms. It was magic to watch different parts of the landscape being lit up then delved into darkness.
The other images included in the show are below as well as an image showing them on display at the show.
